AI placeholder image generator
Describe the picture you need, and a free AI model makes a placeholder image for your mockup. Pick a shape, then download it as JPEG or PNG.
How it works
Your description goes to the FLUX.1 [schnell] image model on Cloudflare Workers AI. The model makes a square image, and the page crops it in your browser to the shape you choose. You can change the shape after the image is made without using up another image.
Each visitor can make 5 images a day, and the site has a shared daily limit, because the free Workers AI allowance has one. Lorem.space does not store the images.
AI image or plain placeholder?
- A plain placeholder image is a grey or coloured box with its size printed on it. Use the placeholder image generator or the placeholder image API when you only need to hold a spot of the right size.
- An AI placeholder image looks like a real photo or illustration. Use it when a mockup needs a realistic picture, so people can judge the layout, colours and crop before the real photos exist.
Tips for better prompts
- Name the subject, the setting and the style, such as "product photo", "flat vector illustration" or "photo from above".
- Say where the light comes from or what the mood is, such as "soft morning light" or "dark and moody".
- Leave out words and letters you want in the picture. Image models often misspell text, so add headings in your design tool instead.
Black Forest Labs releases FLUX.1 [schnell] under the Apache 2.0 licence (checked on 2026-11-04), which allows commercial use.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI placeholder image generator free?
Yes. It uses Cloudflare's free Workers AI allowance, so each visitor can make 5 images a day at no cost.
What sizes can I download?
Square 1:1, landscape 16:9, portrait 4:5, or a 1200×630 social preview image. The page crops the square image from the model to the shape you choose.
Can I change the shape without making a new image?
Yes. The crop happens in your browser, so changing the shape does not use up another image.
Can I use the images in a commercial project?
FLUX.1 [schnell] is released under the Apache 2.0 licence, which allows commercial use.
Why was my prompt refused?
The generator only makes safe-for-work images, so prompts with explicit words are refused before they reach the model.
