Gothic font generator

Type your text and get it in gothic letters, the blackletter style also called Old English or fraktur. Copy it and paste it anywhere you can type.

Gothic, Old English and fraktur

Blackletter is the family of heavy, angular letters used in medieval European manuscripts and early printed books, which is why it also works as a medieval font. People call it gothic or Old English. Fraktur is one German form of blackletter. Today the style shows up in newspaper mastheads, tattoos, band logos and certificates.

Unicode includes fraktur and bold fraktur letters for A to Z, which is what this generator uses. Bold fraktur is the heavier look most people mean by "Old English". Plain fraktur is lighter and easier to read at small sizes. A few plain fraktur capitals (C, H, I, R and Z) come from an older Unicode block, so they can look slightly different from the other letters in some fonts.

Tips for gothic text

• Keep it short. Gothic letters are hard to read in long sentences, so use them for a name, a title or one word.
• Check it on a phone. Some older devices show boxes instead of fraktur letters.
• For a printed design, use a real blackletter font. Copied characters are fine for text on screen, but a font gives you proper spacing and ligatures.

The font generator has 20 styles, including cursive and bubble letters.
