Which invisible character to copy
Start with the Hangul Filler (U+3164) or the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800). Unicode classes them as a letter and a symbol, not as spaces. Apps that trim spaces from a name or a message usually check for space characters only, so these two often survive where a normal space is removed. They take up the width of a letter.
The zero width space (U+200B) and the word joiner (U+2060) have no width at all. Use them to break up a word or a link so an app doesn't turn it into something else, or to allow a line break inside a long word.
The other spaces have fixed widths. The no-break space keeps two words on the same line, the em space is as wide as the letter M, and the ideographic space is as wide as one Chinese or Japanese character.
Blank names and empty messages
- Discord: paste a Hangul Filler as a nickname or a message to show a blank. A message made only of normal spaces can't be sent.
- Instagram: paste a Braille Pattern Blank or a Hangul Filler on its own line to keep a blank line in a bio or a caption, or use one as the name of a highlight.
- Games: some games accept a Hangul Filler in a player name, so the name looks blank.
- Chat apps: send one Braille Pattern Blank to send a message that looks empty.
Each app checks names and messages its own way and can change its rules, so test the character there before you rely on it. Some apps block invisible names because they are used to hide who is talking.
Invisible character detector
Text copied from a web page, a PDF, a chat app or an AI tool can carry characters you can't see. They break searches, form checks, passwords and code. Paste the text here to see each one and remove them.
The checker marks format characters such as zero width spaces and direction marks, spaces other than the normal space, blank letters such as the Hangul Filler, and control characters. Remove turns odd spaces into a normal space and deletes the rest. It keeps the joiners inside emoji such as 👨👩👧, which need them, and nothing leaves your browser.
Frequently asked questions
How do I copy an invisible character?
Press Copy next to a character in the list, then paste it where you need it. Set "How many to copy" first if you need more than one.
What is the best invisible character for a blank name?
Try the Hangul Filler (U+3164) or the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) first. Unicode doesn't class them as spaces, so apps that trim spaces often keep them.
How do I copy and paste a blank space?
Press Copy next to the No-Break Space for a normal-width space that apps don't collapse, or next to the Em Space for a wider one.
How can I find invisible characters in text?
Paste the text into the invisible character detector on this page. It lists each hidden character with its code and marks where it is in the text.
Is a zero width space invisible?
Yes. The zero width space (U+200B) has no width, so you can't see it, but it is still a character and counts toward the length of the text.
