What is in the sample videos
- Picture: colour bars with a moving rainbow line and a moving checkered square, made by the open source tool FFmpeg. A timer and a frame counter run in the top left corner, and a label at the bottom gives the size in pixels. Motion in every frame makes playback stutters and dropped frames easy to see.
- Sound: a 440 Hz tone that jumps to a higher beep once a second, in mono at 48 kHz. Line the beeps up with the timer to check that sound and picture stay in sync.
- Frame rate: 30 frames per second in every file.
- MP4 files: H.264 High profile video and AAC sound, with the index at the start of the file (fast start), so a browser can play a file before it has finished downloading.
- WebM file: VP9 video and Opus sound, the format used for open web video.
The files are compressed hard to keep them small, so the picture is soft. Use them to test that video works, not to judge picture quality. Every frame is generated, so the files show no people, brands or footage owned by anyone else.
